what broke? trasmission or transfercase?

Hey guys, it looks like im back at it, breaking more stuff on my jeep!

it's either the transmission or the transfer case. It has the AW4 with a 231 behind it.

Basically what happened was i was making making a climb and the rear end started hopping so I let off and then it just started making all sorts of snaps, crackels and pops. I got out and looked everything over. Nothing looked bad so I backed down the hill and went to pull forwards out of the way and it had nothing.

In four wheel, It made a loud pooping noise and would kind of jump but wouldn't move. In Two wheel, it sounded like there was something loose but it just wouldn't do anything.

So my thought are that i snapped the mainshaft in the transfer case... what do y'all think?

Most likely the transfer case but you'll have to crack it open to verify.

Pull the drain plug on the t-case and see if theres stuff in the fluid.
