Kind unsure about this one it has 179k miles an never has been rebuilt is it worth getting and rebuilding the motor or look for something else also suggestions on best way to build the motor?(Please include rough estimate that dose not include labor) Also suggestions on a new exhaust system would be helpful.

if it was maintained i wouldnt worry about it, these motors are pretty tough. i have 217k and it runs perfectly fine. i hear of many that make it to 300-400k.

no point in rebuilding when you can buy a good used one for $500.... that xj looks nice

Says the engine runs fine. Why the heck would you want to rebuild it?

179k is just beyond the breakin period.

266,666K on my original 4.0 as of this morning when i pulled into the parkinglot

I wouldn't worry about it. From what i've seen in the junkyard the first thing to really die on these cars is the transmission if it's an auto--usually around 250k. If you put a cooler on an auto trans, or have a manual, the motor should easily make it past 300k.

I'd be more interested in how it sounds, drives, and what it looks like underneath, than the mileage on the odometer.
