Rear disc conversion - question about brake line flaring/termination

Hey guys,

I've read tons and tons of information about the various ways to perform a rear disc swap on the Chrysler 8.25" rear axle, but have chosen to take the route less traveled... The KJ donor route.

A local guy is parting out an '04 Liberty and will sell me the complete rear brake assemblies, pre-pulled, for $200. Pretty sweet deal to me. Vehicle is being parted out due to engine problems (guess resale on those things is crap).

Needless to say, I have a few questions about this:

1) When re-flaring the factory SAE brake line, can it be safely fitted with a metric fitting to properly mate with the caliper?

2) Can my e-brake cables from my current drums be used at all, or do I need to take the donors from the KJ?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer to this.

Handbrake cables? Don't know - but nearly anything can be adapted/converted/whatever with a little skull sweat and effort.

Reflaring the lines? Considering that ISO and SAE dims are basically different, I know I'd probably feel better using an adapter bung than reflaring SAE to ISO.

Methinks the best way to do it would be to redo the hardlines on the axle housing - run ISO hardlines from each wheel to the junction block, then adapt the SAE line to ISO at the junction block. That way, you only introduce ONE extra connection into the system instead of TWO. Or, you can just take in the hardline junction block and the original brake hose to a hydraulic shop, and tell them what you want (thereby adapting the thread without needing an adapter.) Once you know they can do it, get two or three and store them somewhere dark and cool (keep them in a box on a shelf somewhere, until you need them.)

Can you get the hardlines from the seller?

On my 2001 XJ, I used the stock parking brake cables.
I moved the brake junction box (the piece where the three cables join) rearward a couple of inches to gain slack.
The ZJ parking brake uses a cable with a different end. To use the stock XJ cables, I cut the parking brake cable attachment arms off the XJ drum brakes and welded them to the ZJ brake lever, after cutting the ZJ's arms off.
You may be able to do the same with the Liberty's parking brake arms since they are mostly the same.
