My brother has a 94 zj I6 4x4 with a transmission problem.
Problem is as follows:
when warm the tranny doesn't shift into first gear when in D but when you manually shift it its fine. I told him to get an XJ as an easy fix but he refuses. LoL.
any thoughts?
 
did you check the fluid level? stupid question, i know.
other than that, maybe low pump pressure. does it do reverse ok? is it slow going into first or reverse?
i got a trans from a 4wd 4.0 94 zj, rebuilt 60k ago from what i'm told by badgeye on this forum if your looking for one.
 
sounds like it may be a TCU problem, swap it for another one and see if that fix's it.
 
Transmission shift solenoid. I think thats what its called. I have the same issue on my 98 5.9. According to the CEL at least.
