I know this has been asked...and asked...

2001 XJ 2WD

Transmission slipped just once, checked it and it was low, real low.

Put in 1 quart castrol ATF+4 and that just brought it up to the bottom of the stick. Then put in o'reiley brand ATF-compatable with dex III/Mercon.

I am going to replace the seal on the pan to stop the leaks and I will be draining then. What fluid is the best to replace it with?

Royal purple ATF max
Amsoil ATF
Any brand DEXIII/Mercon
Mopar ATF

What say you?:helpme:

Not that i'm likely ever to get another automatic XJ, but back when I did have one I read on the predecessor of this forum that some people had problems running synthetic fluid, and recommended plain dino Dexron to avoid slippage. Is that still the consensus?

I'm in the "change it regularly and use whatever Dex III/Merc compatible fluid you can get" camp. 178K so far without issue.
