Who's in for sure? Need a head count so we don't leave anyone behind at the dam. EDIT: We'll be heading into the trail by 10:30 so try to not be late.

Meeting time is 10:00 on Monday August the 8th, at the Loon Lake staging area.

Re: Rubicon roll call

Phil and I will be there. Hopefully in 2 rigs, maybe in one.

Re: Rubicon roll call

I'm in. How much time should I set aside to make it to staging from Icehouse & Hwy. 50?

A good 45 minutes, however I will plan for 1 hour.

Re: Rubicon roll call

I'm in. I'll be parking my tow rig and trailer at the Horizon Casino and driving to Loon Lake Monday morning.

If anyone else is coming from SoCal and wants to caravan, let me know. So far I plan to take 395 to Tahoe.

Yes, I would plan for at least one hour, with all the lakes and camping the RV and larger tow rigs with boats or buggies going up the steep winding Ice House road . . .

If I can make it I hope to spend Sunday night near Loon Lake.

Also the one over priced gas station on Ice House might not be open very early, so I always top off the tank in Pollock Pines. (Reno group might know a better place coming from the east)

I always top off in Meyers. There is one small gas station further down Hwy 50 but I have never stopped there. That's it until you get to Ice House. It seems like a long drive from the last fill-up but it has been enough to get me through to Tahoe no problems. That being said I like carrying a few extra gallons just so I don't have to worry about it.

Looks like it'll be two rigs wow! Although I need to leave Wednesday. I think I was lucky to get three days.

Out of curiosity, how many people are going to be carrying the same spare XJ D44 rear shaft and set of D30 shafts with unit bearings?

I will be bringing a short side D44 rear shaft and d30 shafts without unit-bearings. The bearings on the installed cro-mo's should come off easily (when needed).

Re: Rubicon roll call

Ran the entire Rubicon last weekend (July 28-31). Trail condition was excellent. A tad wet up to and past Cadillac Hill due to last of melting snow, but the weather and trail was exceptional. Took most damage to the rig on the switchbacks leading up to Cadillac due to slippery rocks.

A few wet crossings by Spider Lake and Buck Island are interesting, especially when you have to drop down into steep cliffs with wet brakes. I'd say that was the only real pucker factor of the trail for me. I need to replace my rear brakes and am sure that contributed to the issue.

Newly laid gravel up to Walker Hill made that section very easy and a little disapointing, but that portion of the trail is short. Avoid the new outhouse if you can because that thing is RIPE. Little/Big Sluice segments did not disapoint. I also saw a few wider rigs (JKs) take damage on the segment just before the bridge to Rubicon Springs. Good thing the XJ is narrow.

Anyone on 33's and at least one locker will have absolutely no problems on the Rubicon and body damage will be minimal if you have good skids/rails. Oh yeah, there were many warnings for bears in the area. Apparantly, there is at least one hungry male bear who likes to visit during the daytime.

Just my input...hope it helps somebody.

In.

Is the plan to head out to Tahoe side on Thursday?

Is anyone heading out on Wednesday?

Re: Rubicon roll call

We'll also be heading into the trail by 10:30.

Once you get to the trail head start airing down your tires and get ready to roll pretty quickly. If you are running late, I'm sure you should be able to catch up fairly quickly.

The Box

Just keeping the excitement up. Thought these were good shots.

Also I hope to be camping just past the spill way Sunday night so I should be up there if anyone wants to show up early.

I may try to make this trip rather than the Deer Valley one but I'm not certain yet. From what I recall to get to the Loon Lake staging area you just go up Hwy 50 and take Ice House all the way to Loon Lake. Is that correct?
