wiring a 242 speedo to 231

i got a 231 from a 97 xj to replace the 94 242 xfercase
The 242 has 2 wire plug but the 231 has 3 wires.

what wires do i connect to make the speedo work?

I believe you can just swap the speedo gear housing from the 94 into the 97 transfer. Check gear length.

OK, then swap what you need to make it work. Are they both the same tooth count?
