Will pre-97 front bumper end-caps fit a 2001 bumper?

I have a 2001 XJ that is in good shape and I want to keep it looking nice. I recently installed Bushwacker flat fender flares. However, in order to fit properly, 98-01 models need to have their front bumper end-caps cut shorter with a box knife. I don't want to do this, because I think it will look amateur. Does anyone know if pre-97 bumper end-caps will fit my 2001 bumper? (since they are smaller and don't require any trimming). I am currently running it without any front bumper end-caps, but that doesn't look good either...

With some work, yes. It might be easier to just use a pre-97 bumper and caps.

Do you know if a pre-97 bumper will bolt right on?

Yes, the mounts are the same. i put a 97+ on my son's 96

Great! Thanks. There's a pre-97 front bumper in "new" condition locally, asking price $40. Does that sound about right?

Thats a good price, a new bumper will be 60-70 without caps. add another 30 or so for new caps
