Dusy Ershim this Summer?

I have been wanting to go check out the Dusy Ershim trail for a couple years now. I have never been.

Anyone interested in running it late this Summer (around August)? It's a challenging high Sierra trail that is relatively close to Southern California (about 5:30 from dowtown LA).

The trail is around 33 miles long, and is rated as "difficult". I understand the trail can be done in 2-3 days, but that 3-4 would be better. In one link below, it looks like some XJ's on 32s ran it...

If anyone is interested, post up...

I go up to Bishop twice a year and would definately be up for running that trail. I ran a section of it in my Land Cruiser a few years ago but I was just exploring and didn't get far. I had to head back so I didn't freak out the wife back at camp. Some beautiful country up there. Set up a date and I will see if I can make it work. The sooner you pick a date the easier it will be for people to put it on their calendars.

I am pretty flexible on the dates.

I can pretty much go anytime between August 5 and August 26.

Weekend is fine, although I would like to have at least 3 days on the trail... so would a 3-day weekend work?

How does the weekend of August 19-21 sound to you guys?

I'm a teacher and am off from early June through mid august. I usually do a trip up to Bishop the first or 2nd week of August. I could also do midweek if that works better for people.

Sounds interesting. If i can get my Rig working the way i want i may be in. But this time no Splitting up the pack! I didnt like Wheeling the Rubicon in the dark :p

You got plenty of time man...

So, this year, we can ALL wheel in the dark instead of just half the group... :D

The good thing about wheelin in the dark is you can't chicken out. By the time your on the "oh shit" obsticles it's too late to turn back. Sometimes it's a good thing to only be able to see what's directly in front of you.

i would really like to attend this trip but it will all depend on my job and what i can make in overhead each week =). i " intend" to have a jeep ready by summer so its still up in the air for me, anyone wanna make up a list of must have's to attend the trip? IE locker/winch/sliders.

on my last jeep i had 4 6" kc's up front with 130watt bulbs on the bumper, everyone made me run as the leader for some reason =)

I'm not really sure, I've never been...:dunno:

Most things I have read say short wheel base with 32-33's and one locker.

well i intend to have at least 33's and 4" lift with sliders and bumpers =) locker will depend on how quickly i get gears, i may have to do a welded locker for the trip ;)

I would love to come we have to get the dates set in stone for me to make it,im on 35s with lockers......:)

You should post up in the Sierra chapter too. I wanted to run Dusy this summer but will not be able to this year. I know there are a few guys up here that are interested in going and a few who have ran it that could answer your questions.

You and I have the same basic set up and I'm sure we will be fine.

In response to MaxxXJ, I'm sure the list would look something like this: All your camping gear, some type of portable toilet, first aid kit, tow straps & good recovery points, tree strap, lots of spare parts, sliders, at least one locker, fire extinguisher, full size spare, and of course Beer.

Haha, you guys couldn't have waited 45 min for Sean to fix his unit bearing! :greensmok

This looks interesting! Lets get a date set.

The funny thing about that was that my group (the impatient ones) got lost and you guys ended getting on the trail before us. I definately support the "stick together" philosophy. Splitting up was a bad idea and I will not make that mistake twice. So Max, you think you might come along on this trip? Sounds a lot like the Rubicon (except for being 3 hours closer) and I'm always up for new trails.

Haha... I forgot about that... the "impatient ones" did get there last. I'm sure the grenaded diff didn't help a whole lot either.:explosion

So, I posted up in the Sierra chapter:

Ofcourse the blown radiator, and the blown brake lines didn't aide in the issue. If we had stuck together, Max had the spare brake lines in his rig. It could have been a quick and easy trail repair but instead we had ghetto vice grips handing off his brake lines removing their function all together. Watching Al come down that hill without front brakes scared the crap out of me and I wasn't even in his rig. I couldn't imagine what he was feeling. Good times!
