410 gears on 355 carrier?

no. Carrier break is 3.73 and up

You will need a 3.73 carrier for both axles, the good news is you can get them at the junkyard, just find a 5.2 v8 Grand cherokee 93-95

If you had an 8.25 in the rear there is no carrier split but unfortunately you have the Craptastic D-35 so like stated, it and the D-30 both have a 3.55- or a 3.73+ carrier split.

This pic shows the minimal but mandatory difference in the 2 D-30 carriers
Note the carrier with no side/spiders is a 3.55- and the loaded carrier is a 3.73+

And if you want to compare strength, look at the stock carriers compared to my D-30 Detroit Locker:shhh:

So if you have a 8.25 you dont need a new carrier to change gears?

No, there is no carrier break on the 8.25, you use the same carrier for all R&P ratios. The 8.25 maxes out at 4.88 though and honestly I would never run tires larger than 35" on a 29 spline 8.25 anyway.

If you want to go bigger or if you want to go bulletproof then consider something more substantial than the 8.8/D-44/29 spline 8.25. They are all comparable in strength. Full width is the next step

31" is max on a D-35

We have beat this subject up on here for years so do some searching for your options

for the dana 30....
How would I go about making sure what I am buying used with no gears on it is actually a higher (numerically) ratio carrier for the Dana 30?

You can measure the deck height too.

Set carrier on end, so ring gear mounting surface is facing up, and measure from ring gear mounting surface surface its sitting on.

The 3.54 & numerically lower is 1.810"
The 3.73 & numerically higher is 1.943"

for the d35... throw it all out, theyre not worth re-gearing.
