Hello, out of the blue the other day my jeep seems to stumble or studder at idle. it happens so fast that the rpm's do not seem to go up or down when it happens. also it will do the studder like a violent jerking at cruising speeds at no apparent rpm level. would the o2 sensor be a good place to start for something like this?

Always post the year/engine for the most accurate replies.

What is the condition of tuneup hardware? Always freshen the plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter (where applicable), before moving onto more complex possibilities.

Oxygen sensors have a finite lifespan of between 100k and 150k, depending on the efficiency of the engine.

Could be a problem with spark, or with air-fuel ratio. I was having a problem with the jeep wheezing and sputtering sometimes and it turned out that the air temp sensor had a weak connection, and was causing the computer to apply the wrong fuel.
