Unknown plug

96 xj 4.0 While I was doing a tune up, a noticed a plug dangling near my washer fluid tank. it looks like the outside temp plug, but thats up near the grill area. Can anyone give a clue to what it could be? it has 2 wires, i think red and white or black and white and about 8 inches long from the main wire tube.

Could be the plug for the optional under hood light. See if it's hot all the time.

+1 on the option hood light. I'm slowly finding out that the 1996 Cherokee is a "funny" year. It has some things from 1995 and some thing from 1997. I found more of it out the other day when I scored a nice bezel (instrument, radio, etc.) from a pre- 95 Jeep, only to see that the fitting part near the steering wheel was too narrow...........................
