Anyone have any experience with this?

I've been really looking into a headlight upgrade recently. Originally, I was going to make my own harness via gojeep.com, IPF housings, and 55w Sylvania bulbs ($50 ones, still halogen I believe.)

Just surfing through youtube when I came across this guy who installed these bi-xenons in his TJ.

In the description, he said he got these HIDs

Anyone have any experience?

These are pretty cheap and from the video put out amazing light, which is what I am looking for obviously. I would not use the harness they gave me, I would still build a new one.

Is it worth it or are should I stick to my original plan?

'91 laredo 4.0 if that makes a difference.

Thanks

I would go with an H4 bulb conversion headlight housing and purchase a Hi/Lo 55 Watt 6000K HID kit for an H4 bulb from DDM Tuning here: http://www.ddmtuning.com/product.php?II=101. You would still be able to make your own relay harness for the lights and they will be plenty bright enough for you! I ran the DDM kit on my FJ Cruiser and my Corolla before I got my XJ and the kit worked very well! I am saving up to do this conversion on my XJ.

I have an upgraded harness and 65/60W Hella bulbs (I think) in Hella E-code housings. Maybe they were 70/65W. Works great.

You shouldn't use HID bulbs in a regular housing. The shape and position of the light source is different so the reflector can't direct the beam properly, leading to glare.

wink has a small point there about the open housings and what not. I was planning on using these housings when I did the conversion: http://www.topgearautosport.com/par..._7_Inch_Sealed_Beam_Headlight_Conversion.html. They have the directional beam reflector in them already so if you throw an HID bulb in there, it will be fine and the light will not scatter about blinding people unless their car is too low and they opt not to have tint on their rear windows (which at that point is their own fault IMHO LOL).

Yea I was kinda worried about the housings.

Will the Hella E-codes be suitable? Or Cibies for that kit?

The main issue is glare, an I have read that e-code headlamps are very adequate at doing so. I have read that there are also IPF ecodes, but can't find them.

Thanks, looking at ordering these very soon

Would I even have to upgrade the harness if I go with HID's? I am only thinking this way because they have much less draw than halogen lights.

A newer synopsis:
Will the Hella e-code housings provide the cutoff, i.e. not blinding traffic, with the HID? as well as being able to properly aim them with substantially even light gain? Have searched numerous hours; can't get a straight answer.

Or should I stick to my own harness, Hella e-codes, and higher-wattage halogens?

ANY input is appreciated

Are the IPF 820H's housings ECE (ecode) housings?
Can't get a solid consensus on if they are or not...Anyone?
