Manual Shifter

ARB-XJ

NAXJA Forum User
The knob broke off my shift, im just wondering before i go playing with it, does the shifter just thread onto the linkage coming from the trans? If not how to you remove it?

Not sure I get your question--the knob screws onto the end of the shifter.

If you want to remove the shifter there are four bolts that hold it to the transmission.

If you want to replace shift boots you need to split the shifter at the "bulge" by using two small flat-blade screwdrivers or two pieces of hacksaw blade to release the clips and then knock it apart with a mallet while its held in a vise.

The shift knob is a POS. The interior is made out of styrofoam. Spend 15 dollars on a cool aftermarket knob and you won't have to deal with it again.

or jeep up and get a hurst

i need to replace the whole shift boot due to how the knob broke, will have to try splitting the bulge how joe described
