Sounds a bit like my '89. Guy paid his questionable garage close to $5000- in repairs in the 3 years before I bought it for $700-. Had a bad front wheel bearing and he was moving to his grand daughters home in N.Y. Even if it needed an axle swap for $200-, it was well worth it.

its 2wd, and needs a new tranny. i called the guy and he said he put a new clutch in it because it was grinding and was really hard to go into gears, so after he put the clutch in it it still has the problem and is hard to get into gear.

Ouch, a clutch for a BA10/5 is not a cheap part, that's why I never fixed the Chief. Worth about seventeen times that of a new BA10/5 transmission.
