231 Transfer Case Differences...

I've got a 91 4.0L XJ 5-spd and need to replace my 231 transfer case...Any reason why a newer XJ ('95-'96) case wouldn't be an identical bolt up? I know the speed sensor plug is different, but I'd assume I can swap out that assembly and use the longer ('91-style)speedo gear with the newer case with no issues.

Anyone with experience doing this/ issues?

There are different styles and lengths of the tailcone assy along with different lengths and spline counts of the input. Early years also support vacuum switching the front axle.
