anything else I need to know before replacing my pinion seal?

You really should use a new crush sleeve and torque it to the proper spec.

If you are careful...and have an inch-lb torque wrench - not the clicker type. Disconnect drive shaft. Use the torque wrench to measure the resistance while spinning the pinion. Replace seal and tighten slowly until you get about 5 inch-lbs more.

But the best way is to replace the sleeve.

EDIT - that tech article was very bad. That yoke was grooved bad enough that it needed to be replaced. And it said nothing about checking the preload.
