How much difference in performance will I see...

I am headed to the junk yard tomorrow to pull a Ford 8.8 out of a 96+ Explorer.

I would like one with Limited Slip, but can't guarantee there will be one. I will come home with an axle either way.

How much difference in performance will I see on the trail if I install a LSD 8.8 versus a non-LSD 8.8?

Or, to re-phrase it, will there be distinct, noticable advantanges to the LSD?

Thanks y'all...

find one out of a later model with a 5.0 (like 97 ish) with 4.10s and an open carrier.

I have two friends that run LSD 8.8s on trucks and one we did the stock clutch plates with the alternate stacking method and the other one did the svt carbon clutches... Initial thoughts were that they both locked up comparably but now about a year later the svt clutches seam to have lasted longer. I opted for an 8.8 with LSD because I know no matter what I can get great tire spinning, corner drifting traction and even if I have to dick with it a little it's cheap. Fwiw the lock-rite for the LSD 8.8 is a hood amount more expensive then the open carrier version, but a full carrier locker would be the same part and price to do now or later. What I'm saying is if you wanna mess with the clutches a little with the intent that it will never be a Detroit but knowing that it will be better then an open diff if done right, do the LSD.
