That and the 8.25 has a flat spot on the bottom with little tabs that stick out on the two sides.

Also since the cover has the metal plug, its a non-c-clip D35. The later c-clip version has a rubber butt plug located a little higher up since the wheel bearings on that setup are lubed with the gear oil.

.... or it's a c-clip rear with the wrong cover and bad wheel bearings...:laugh3:

my guess (based on the year) is a non c-clip rear, though
 
xwhatever, it's a d35.

You can visually ID the d35 vs 8.25 by a few things - the 8.25 cover has a half-round "lip" pressed into the edge. The 8.25 has the flat bottom lip on the casting that dave92cherokee mentioned. The 8.25 cover has straight edges along the top and bottom while the d35 cover has no straight edges anywhere.
