i have a 1988 xj, with a 4 speed auto and a np242 t-case. i have a 1995 manual tranny that was hooked up with a np 231. can i put this into my '88 with my np242 or would i have to get the 231 t-case, and will it even bolt up to my engine they were both 4.0l

Your auto has a 21 spline output shaft and the 95 AX-15 has a 23 spline output shaft so your 242 won't bolt up. You'll have to change the input shaft of the 242 to a 23 spline, find a later 242 with a 23 spline input, or use the 231. The AX-15 will bolt up no problem to the motor. You'll need to use a flywheel from an 88 so the CPS can function properly. The pilot pushing you need to use is a from a 73-75 CJ with a 304. It has the right OD to fit the hole in the crank and the right ID for the pilot tip (.75 IIRC) of the AX.
