Weird XJ electrical stuff

Just wanted to post a weird thing my XJ started doing and post what I found in case anyone else runs into the same thing.

It's a 96 XJ, 4.0L, Aw4 etc etc

Anyway would start up fine...Usually leave the radio on all the time. So second or two after running radio would cut on like usual...then if you would turn on the A/C blower or windshield wipers...they would all go dead...switch the blower off...radio would come back on...same with wipers...But everything else worked fine....weird right?

Anyway suspected a prob with the ignition starter switch. Pulled it apart and sure enough it had shorted out and almost burnt up the power wires in the pigtail.

replaced the switch with a NAPA replacement and seems GTG now.

Also found a really good walkthru on how to replace it on youtube.

One weird thing in replacement is you need to get a set of security torx bolts to get the switch off...Had a thousand torx bits...but none with the stupid hole in the middle.

Harbor freight has 100 pc set of all the most common ones for $7.99 though

(the set doesn't come with one big enough for the roll bars BTW)

-Cheers
