Its a 96 xj sport 4 wd np231 4.0 ho

So, ok, not an axle shaft...a driveshaft.

will a shaft from a 231 to a 8.25 work? I've got one of those.

anyone going that way? I could get it as far as kearny mesa. (Bring it to work with me)

A cv driveshaft would work if you have a sye installed. If you want to know what it looks like then look at your front driveshaft. That's a CV driveshaft. A lot of guys run a stock front cv driveshaft in the rear after they intall a SYE. (Including me) It also makes having a trail spare real cheap. Just go pick one up at the junkyard.If you don't have a sye then you don't want a cv driveshaft. Take Boostamante up on his offer. That one would work for you.
