Tranny Compatibilities

Well my tranny is dead and im looking for a donor.

I'm searching craigslist and i have currently found 4 1994 trannies that i could pick up close by decently priced. Mine is a 1998 with an aw4. What years of xj trannies can i throw under my rig that will bolt and plug in?

Has to be a 98-01 to be 100% plug in. There was a change in some of wiring in 98.

Yep, you can make a 98-01 go into a 97 down with some electronics nerdery but a 97-down into a 98 is gonna need either a TCU swap (and hope the ECU doesn't get angry, I still need to test this... oops) or an act of congress.
