Since its for an '89 Im only guessing .... but I would say it is the transmission control unit or similiar .... for the aisin gearbox

Ahh, that makes sense. The previous owner said he replaced the TCU. I thought it was some weird AC control part, lol!

Thanks guys. Think I should scrap this one? I guess I should plug it in first to see if it works. I think I read it's located under the passenger side dash, is that right?

On the 89, yes, passenger's side.
