I'm not really sure if this belongs in "modified" or "OEM". I just did some rear axle work on my dana 44 with a detroit locker. When I went to refill the gear oil I realized I bought 80 90 weight and not the usual 85 140 weight. After a moment of thought I realized I'm not even sure which weight I should be using. Any thoughts?

75 w90 or for "towing or severe use" 75/80 w140

Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't the w140 the viscosity only in cold weather?

I wouldn't worry about it.

I use 75/90 mobil I think.

I use whatever is cheap and on the shelf at autozone when I show up. Usually the Coastal with the green-themed label... absolutely no idea which viscosity it is :looney:

5 gallon drum of Coastal from autozone. So cheap you will never hesitate to change your diff fluid!

Thanks for the replies guys. It would seem that I will stick with the 80 90. I was really just looking for a piece of mind and you guys just gave that to me.
