Quick U-joint question

rear driveshaft ujoint broke last night taking out one of the straps with it. Replaced it but as this was my first time doing a ujoint.. Are the straps supposed to be tight enough that they don't allow movement between the joint and the diff or should I have put them on so it can move around a bit

make it tight. slop is not your friend.

Make sure that when the u-joint broke it didn't take out the little "ears" in the yoke that hold the u-joint caps on--if they are gone you will spit caps and be back under there again very soon.
