Exterior door trim removal?

My door trim is getting severly faded on my 2001. Been playing with the idea of eliminating it completely. My concern is that it is bolted into the sheet metal and there will be gaping holes in the doors. It does appear though that it is glued on.

1. Can someone confirm how they are mounted on?

2. If they are glued on, how do you get the glue off the body without damaging paint?

Thanks in advance and Pic's for click

Its glued/two sided taped on, just grab a corner and peel it back carefully. I used a rubber wheel from 3m that is made for removing that sticky crap without hurting the paint. It was expensive though, my brother gave it to me left over from his silverado, i think it cost him $50. I then used goo be gone to get the left over off, clay barred it and waxed it. It looks good.
