Okay, here's a weird one. My friend's 2000 XJ 4.0/AW4 locks up the torque converter clutch in reverse intermittently causing the motor to drag down and stall. It shifts into drive fine, but reverse it stalls about 50% of the time.
We pulled the transmission pan and changed the filter - the fluid was pretty dark but didn't smell burnt. I tested all 3 solenoids and they're all within spec - 13.4 ohm. I pulled them and cleaned them anyway, the O-rings looked fine.
So I'm guessing it's an electrical gremlin causing this. I checked and didn't see any obvious rubbing wires on the tranny harness or anything like that. Any ideas? :dunno:
