so i have a 97 4.0 auto and when i first start it and begen driving the thing will sputter and i almost have to floor it before it will clear up!!! but after a while of driving it will run fine... and also if im wheeling and let it run for a while it will start to sputter once agian until i rev it for a while and it clears up... any idea's? tps is new also...

Any codes?

Smell like it is running rich?

when it does sputter it doesnt seem to smell rich... the test port shows no link so i need to fix this for sure.... someone told me it could be the cps???

Almost sounds like one or more injectors puking too much fuel into one or more cylinders--cold start the fuel has pooled into the cylinders, extended idle it loads up the cylinders. As the RPMs increase the engine can handle the excess fuel.

That is where I would start.
