'91 xj transfercase splin count

Any one know what the spline count would be or if they even made more than one different count? Thanks

91-up is supposed to be 23-spline, since it was a transition period there is a very small chance that it is 21-spline

I believe the transition period was in '90, so all 91s should be 23 spline. Parts catalog backs this up, lists separate transfer case and transmission part numbers for units with build dates up to 10/2/89 and after 10/2/89. It also lists different input gears for the 231 used with transmissions up to serial number 131163 or after 131163.

Novak's page doesn't say anything about it being a mid year split, but from what I've been told by people I trust, it was a mid-90 change.
