fuel gauge stuck

The guage on my 87 4.0 is stuck at 3/8 tank. I just replaced the pump not to long ago and it was workin fine. It sat for the last week while i was out of town and when i came back and filled it up the guage wont move. Ive heard of the float getting stuck on the in tank filter, but it doesnt seem like the float is low enough for that. could my guage have gone out? or should i just go beat on the tank and maybe it will jiggle loose?

You can test the gauge with some resistors from RS. Zero ohms = empty, 44 ohms = 1/2, 88 ohms = full. If the gauge checks out, and the wiring to the sender is good, then you are most likely down to pulling the sender and checking it.

Did you get the little rubber stopper on the bottom of the fuel pump assembly seated correctly in the spot in the tank?
