I know this topic has been beaten to death on here but i have to ask. I just bought a 93 xj auto from my buddy. it started when i looked at it, it started when i drove it on the tow truck, it started when i drove it off the tow truck. but has never started without crossing the selnoid since. My reverse lights work so the nss is working in that position fine. There is no power at the small lead at the starter when i crank the key in park/neutral or any position. Is there a way to by pass the NSS? If not taking it out wont be a problem as i have the entire floor cut out at the moment.

Sorry for beating a dead horseHasta but i have looked at a couple of the threads and didnt really find the ansewer i was looking for.

thanks

Found this with a web search.

Know that there are things to consider before bypassing the NSS like being able to start in any gear, possible quirky transmission issues (NSS does more than keep the engine from starting in gear), and no backup lights.

Here is a link to an article on rebuilding the NSS. Many have had success and it is definitely worth a try. It may restore complete function.

If you want to replace, TEAM CHEROKEE offers this switch for around $130. Salvage yard is another option. Both cheaper than the dealer.

The NSS has a long pigtail and connects to the main harness at the firewall on the passenger side (the main tranny harness also connects there as well). Disconnect the NSS and make a little jumper wire that connects B and C pins together (should be BLACK and BLACK/WHITE but check the pin labels). If the jeep starts the NSS is broken and needs to be repaired or replaced.
