locker popping

on left hand turns only my rear wheel pops a few times till i straighten out... it only happens on turns and is really loud...any incite? right hand turns are fine and this just started happening and have not wheeled hard at all...when it pops the left rear wheel stops for a sec if locked then unlocks... it will pop about 10 times on a turn... hope something is not too wrong...thanks in advance!

What kind of locker? What rear end?

My detroits rarely make noise. And when they do it bangs once and sounds like the damn rear end fell out.

If it is a constant popping or banging noise when your locker is trying to do it's thing, you may have a bent housing. I would check that SOON. Lockers do not like bent housings. It will blast itself to bits.

oh man well yeah its a detroit locker so it is always engaged ... it pops bad on the turns left... like a high click noise about 7 times before i straighten out... i know what you are saying about the loud clunk it happens very rarely and makes my jeep alomost fishtail... but if it is a bent housing i will take it to the jeep place tomorow... any ideas about pricing or parts? i am a poor college student and i drive my jeep daily so it has to be fixed soon... thanks!

The detroit makes that popping noise as it rachets in turns to relieve bind. try the turn with slight throttle and see if it still does it

Detroits do make some noise as they work, but if it is really audible, something is wrong. Jack your rear end off the ground and rotate each tire until you hear it racheting. If this is what you are hearing on the street, this is normal. Also, if you can apply throttle and it goes away and chirps the tires, it is normal.

For instance, in my rig when I am turning left at idle with the clutch engaged, the Jeep will buck and try to die... pretty bad (almost like a teenager learning how to drive a stick), but if I push in the clutch pedal or put it in neutral, it just coasts normally as the locker does its thing. Try doing that in your rig, pop it into neutral and see if it does it as you coast around the corner. If the noise goes away, your locker should be okay.

NOW.... if it is BANGING, get your housing looked at. You could do a self inspect by taking off the diff cover and feeling around for metal bits. If there are bits, you have a problem. Probaby a good thing to do before you decide to take it to the mechaninc. But if that neutral thing works, you should be fine.

well i have a front locker too and i can hear it chirping as it engages around corners... my rear is very quiet but now it is loud - 6-7- or 8 clicks like really loud high clicks kind of scary sounding... i am going to take it to my mechanic i am kind of afraid of what i might find inside... i have jack stands but i am afraid becasue it only happens on turning... tomorow we will see what the deal is... thanks guys for all the responses

it also pops - non normal popping while in nuetral and once or twice in reverse... something aint right

its gotten real bad i am afraid to drive it... anyone know of a good atlanta area drivetrain specialist? thanks in advance.

it sounds you have a problem I have detroit and it is only a faint click click click while turning not POP POP POP

yeah sorry i thouht you meant the locker... i would like to keep my dana 44 and get my locker fixed sorry for the confusion!
