noise when gas pedal is lifted

Hi;

I have a Jeep Cheroke 1998;auto; 6 cyliner petrol.

I experience a noisy sound(not road noise) when i lift the foot of the gas when i acellerate; the noisy is not heard or should I say drowned out.

I have checked all fluid level and had therear brakes completely serviced.the noise occurred before brake service.
the mileage is 183 000 km.

any thoughts on the matter will be appreciated,

So, how is the weather down there?

Anyway, you are saying that during acceleration, as you reduce the amount of throttle, you hear a noise--correct?

Can you describe the noise--clunk, clang, bang, thump, squeal?

Hi

weather is always perfect here

hot in summer

warm in winter

the noise is more like a rumble

could be pinion bearings. you could try moving to a heavier oil in the diffs. could also be transfer case related.

is it lifted?

I would check the ujoints on the rear driveshaft.

I just had a similar issue. I heard what sounded like a thumping sound that I could even feel in my feet and it was consistent with the speed of the vehicle. It turned out to be loose lugnuts on one of the wheels.

Do you have catalytic converters in Africa? The noise could be a loose cat in your exhaust as a "rumble." You really need to narrow down noise.
