1994 xj engine problems

ok im lookin for help i have a 94 xj with 4.0L inline 6 it starts but runs real rough it sputer at full throttle and shut off if i take my foot all the way off the gas had it in a shop they replaced the crank sensor and said the ecu was shot since then i have replaced the ecu and its still runnin the same, when it runs if i let it run for long the exhaust glows red fromn the head to the exhaust tip it has me stumped :smsoap: just wounderin if any one had any ideas that may help me get it runnin

Sounds like it is running WAY rich and possible clogged CAT.

What area of Pendleton are you stationed at?

You can test for a clogged CAT with a vacuum gage. Hook up gage, start up vehicle. If vacuum steadily decreases, exhaust is likely blockage.

x2 runing WAY rich and clogged cat..if your state dont do emissions, cut that sucker off!! you dont need it anyways.

Probably one of the sensors keeping the computer in warm-up mode. Check the O2 (exhaust), coolant temperature (thermostat housing), MAP (firewall), and MAT (air intake) to see if they are working. Or get a handful of junkyard sensors and replace them one at a time to isolate.
