Damn, front right caliper seized on the ride to the office. TONS of smoke but the old 4.0 had np pushing though it

Tell me if this is a fair deal from the local shop

Full front brake job both sides

pads
rotors
calipers
hoses

Please inspect and clean rear brakes

$520

It sounds fair to me but I want to make sure.

I had the same thing happen to me, but I just took care of it myself. Front brakes are simple and reletively quick. Parts for that would be less than $150, labor must be expensive. If the replaced the rear at the same time I think it might be worth it then.

X3, I just paid 170 after shipping for reman calipers preloaded with pads, rotors, and hoses. If I mail my old calipers back I get 20 of that back for core charge. It's probably a mostly fair price for a mechanic's time but you can do it yourself for under half even including bleeding the brakes.

do it all your self, free, parts 150 bucks, save 350

All of those parts are more like $315 to buy good quality not sure about pep boys or the like. For that it is not worth it for $185 saved and all the blood I will shed ;)

so why did you ask if you already had your mind made up on the matter?

Where are you getting your numbers? I bought only name brand parts (Raybestos, Dorman, etc - all companies I have used for years and trust) and came up with $170 after shipping and core charges. I used RockAuto.

Well the car not moving without giving it 3/4 throttle kind of forced my hand ;)

Calipers - $70
Rotors - $100
Pads - $60
Hoses - $80

So $310 plus tax and shipping not including the $80 core charge for two calipers.

80 for hoses?!

That is ridiculous, even the dealer doesn't charge that much I'm pretty sure. I got mine for 11 dollars each, Dorman ones, I've been using them for years and noted that their quality is just as good as OEM if not better.

Rotors - ok, sure, get pricey ones if you want. Unless they warp, they are metal discs. Calipers you're spending about what I did, except mine came preloaded with pads.

You might want to shop around since jeeppartstore may not be the best for all the parts.

Try your luck with these sites and of course eBay:

And are you sure you want to replace everything? It may well be that the piston is stuck but the rotors are still fine.

those part prices are rediculous, don't ever buy from that place if that's what they're charging.

As to the quality, it's not like anyone is casting new calipers for these things. All the ramans are getting new seals and pistons, the caliper is likely an OEM one that's been recycled.
Cheap chinese rotrs do suck, buy some good ones there, but otherwise these guys are right. You can do this job for les than $200 with premium parts and an afternoon in your driveway.

If your RF heated up that much, you might have torched your unit bearing too....

unless your doing a serious brake upgrade, your pissing in the wind when you spend all that money on stock replacement parts. I would suggest just getting a good brake pad, that's where you will notice a little difference, especially if you do a lot of city driving.
