AW4 transmission -fluid

I don't know if this is the right place for this but I have heard that it is better to use Toyota type IV tranny fluid instead of Dex III for the AW4 tranny

does anyone know if this makes much of a difference? Sorry if this is a newb question - new to the jeep scene and these particular trannys

Amsoil Universal ATF FTW!

Owners manual calls for Dexron/Mercon III or compatible.

True, licensed Dex/Merc fluid isn't made any longer, you can still by the product that states "compatible"

I run Amsoil universal ATF in my AW4 too like johnniewalker, but Dex/Merc will work fine and give you long service life.

I wouldn't run ATF+4. SEARCH for threads that discuss this.
