No current problem myself, but something came up in reading.

I saw an article/advertisement in a Jeep magazine(new mag to me, apparently printed in/ imported from Australia.)

Anyway, they were talking about erratic idle and poor performance being caused by the rotor button hitting the side of the distributor due to wear on the distributor shaft/shaft bushings. They also indicated this can cause a similar problem in the '00/'01s when the drive shaft in the cam sensor wears out.

They explained the wear may be caused due to the deletion of a spiral groove machined into the shaft to pull oil up into the bushings. This groove is present on all the earlier distributors up until the 4.2l. The 4.0 doesn't have it.

I don't recall reading anything about this here. I did a search, which didn't help, (not that THAT means anything, I searched for a thread I started once and couldn't find it,.. I suck at teh search  )

Anybody else hear anything about this?

"...hear anything about this?" as in the spiral groove or a worn distributor messing with the synch sensor for the fuel injectors?

Do the '00/'01s have a dist? I thought they were
DISTRIBUTORLESS IGNITION SYSTEM (DIS)

I think they still use a shaft to drive the oil pump and operate the synch sensor for the injectors, but yeah, 00-01 would be distributor-less.

Well i guess im not the only one awake this early. my gf swears I'm cheating on her with NAXJA. lol.

Wife feels the same way--she says its worse than if I was addicted to porn.
