locking hub idea

i got a buddy with a cj-7 that has a d30 front end with locking hubs and i was wondering if i took the outer knuckles and out side of the shafts if i could frankenstien together the rest of the brakes and steering and make it work. we are gonna junk the d30 from his cj anyway and replace it with a d44 out of a 79 wagoneer. just wondering if anybody has either thought of this or tryed it yet.

best bet is to take a measuring device and check the difference
