Just put a three in lift in my xj 99 4.0 aw4. I started driving and imidiately I notice a grinding in the rear end. I got my shocks in and now it only does it when I let off the gas and slow down. There is about four inches of lift in the rear due to new leaf packs. No idea what it could be.

Recheck the torque on the lift parts and anything your loosened or removed to install the lift.

How are your drive line angles, need any shims ?

What did you do about an SYE or T-case drop ?

What is the condition of your rear drive shaft u-joints ?

^^^Tim has covered most everything. Sounds more or less like either your drive line angles are fubared right now or the u-joints are gone, or a combo of the two.

You need an SYE.

Did the same thing on my '99 with an RE4.5 kit, went away only after I installed an SYE.
