Happens frequently, but not allways.

97 4.0 auto 160k

When taking off from a light, it sometimes will hessitate and jerk a bit, like bad gas maybe, but gas is good. fuel filter/pump was replaced earlier this year.

also, when driving down the road at a steady speed, say 50, if i speed up it hesitates a bit then and feel a clunk from what seems like the back, or the rear of the center console.

again, doesnt happen all the time, but happens alot. suggestions?

one other thing, in park/neut the engine idles without any issues, can also rev just fine.

once in drive though, it bogs down

Well, when under a load there is more resistance to firing the plugs, so you may have spark going to ground or a weak component like a coil/cap/rotor. Check the spark, it should be a bright blue "hot" spark.

Use a bright spotlight to inspect the cap/rotor/plugs for carbon tracks indicating spark following an alternative path to ground.

thanks, going to replace all plugs/wires/cap when it gets a bit warmer. think after looking at the mount and it looked fine, that will be the next area. besides, couldnt hurt to get new.

also, have a 3.5" lift, going to add a 1/2" drop on the tcase and see what happens with that.

When you get the cap and rotor, get the higher quality ones with brass contacts instead of the lower quality aluminum contacts.
