I put a new belt on my 88 cherokee and started it up. Went to see if

everything was working right and the belt came off and noticed the water

pump pulley was bent towards the block.I'm now replacing the water pump,

is there anything I should look for that might have cause this or did the water

pump just happen to break?
Best regards, Chris

Reason for replacing the belt?
How tight did you adjust the tension on the belt?

maybe the bearing on the pump was about to go and putting a new belt on and tightening it up might of caused it to bust.

Congratulations, 4-5 years on a new (not reman) water pump is about it. You got at least an extra 24 months on that one.

Kudos to NAPA, its my favorite place.

Doubtful that there is a cause and effect relationship. The water pump was probably right on the edge. New pump should get you back on the road.
