Sunk my new winch!!

First time out with my brand new winch
and ended up stuck in water hole. My
new winch was under water for maybe 4-5 minutes
relay box is mounted under the hood in a sealed
box. Winch works fine, should I be concerned?
Should I open up the caps and check it out?
What do you guys think?

What kind of winch is it? Most major winch companies have a sealed solenoid box, so they should be able to be submerged for a short period of time and not damage anything.

You should be alright, winches can get wet and still work.

You really think they'd make a winch that wouldn't work after it goes underwater for a few minutes?

Silly question, but have you tried the winch since? Plug in the controller and spool it out and in for a few seconds each. I'd bet that it's fine.

my new xrc8 winch solenoid got messed up after crossing some creeks. the winch wouldnt extract only retract. And it got to one point where i pressed the retract button and the winch wouldnt stop when i stopped pressing the button! it ended up ripping the hook off the wire. I called smittybilt and they sent me a new solenoid for free99

My winch is also the smittybuilt and I relocated
the solinoid box under the hood and placed it in
a sealed box so it didn't get wet at all.
I have tested the winch a few times and it seems to be fine.
So I guess I should be okay thanks for the reponses.

ya the winch itself wont get hurt, its the solenoid box that would get damaged
