good deal on new windshield?

My wife's uncle is the GM at a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge up in MD. I have a crack in my windshield that literally goes 3/4 across it. i don't have comprehensive insurance, so i have to replace on my own buck. Long story short, he says he can get me a OEM windshield installed for $140 (plus tax i'm sure). This seems like a good deal considering when i was talking to the traveling glass fixers (before the crack was too long....) i was getting estimates close to $100 anyways.

I am going to check around to be sure, but i heard that new glass usually cost ~$300 or so. Can you all give me your $.02?

thanks!

I just paid $225 here in Hawaii to have a new windshield installed in my 96. That was glass and labor. A few weeks before I had the passenger windows put in for $80 each when I already had the glass. So $140 sounds like a steal in my book.

140$ is a damn good deal, cheapest I have seen recently is just below 200$. Just make sure that price includes a new seal as well and a warranty.

Check around.

When I got my XJ, I had a new front windshield and a new rear glass put in with defrost (original didn't have defrost in it).

Both installed with tax came to $ 175 with a lifetime leak repair warranty.

The quotes I got originally were right around the $300 mark for one to be replaced.

I've had two replacements, one by a fly by night, and one by a chain.
The chain version had better tinting, and weather seal.
Fly by night replacement whistled and leaked air, and a tiny bit of water.

I live in colorado and I just replaced mine for the second time from the same people, who sold me windshield, new seal, and labor for $139.:yap:
The quality is alright the only prob is there is no tint on the top for glare, so I just buy wally mart tint(2 1/2%) and put a 3 3/4" strip across the top.
