SYE and Front Shaft ?

The Disclaimer:
I have tried searching and can only find stuff for AX15. So please help!

The Info:
I have a 99' 4 door Sport with a AW4 trans, 231 TC with 1" drop , and 4.5" lift ( 4.5" front springs, and 3.5" RE superflex rear leafs which sits close to 4.5")

The Question:
I see lots of people talking about running a SYE and using a front shaft in the rear, so my question is what are the details/specifics for doing this with the set up I am currently running?

Thanks for any advice and or help with this!!!

Whats the question? Do you have an SYE? If you do, then you should be able to run a front shaft from an AW4 in the rear. There is nothing else. If you dont have an SYE, you need to get one or do a hack and tap.

There are probably hundreds of threads on this, here are a few I just pulled up.

At the very bottom of every thread page (even this one) there are related threads on the subject. Just click on them, you could do this for hours on this subject and never read the same thing twice.

good luck, ~ James

Yep- that's it really, lots of info, it's easy and works great. Just did it to mine this week at about 4" lift. The front driveshaft is most of what you'd pay for from Tom Wood or anybody else, difference is the slip spline isn't as beefy. So pick up another from the junkyard for a spare, just in case.

Okay so I picked up a front drive shaft, and ordered an Advance Adapters SYE, is this all I need for it to bolt in or will I need any special flanges, adapters, etc? and again THANKS!

a good set of snapring/lockring pliers would be beneficial. A few beers and a buddy.

Just a piece of advice, I would take the Xfer case out of the jeep. Just my preference. Especially the first time. I promise you that getting the TC out, is harder than actually doing to SYE install.

x2. After I did mine, I decided if I ever did it again I would leave it in.

So leave the Tcase in or out? I'm a little unsure because trd Xj42 and backroads said different things, also does anyone have pics of this up close (Axle/TC ends, and the shaft). Sorry to be so repetitve, but a buddy of mine who is way more mechanically inclined is basicaly saying that me and everyone else on here saying/proving that this works is crazy. Again thanks to all you guys and your help.

Take it out for the first time. I took mine out the first time, but would leave it in if I did it again because I'm more familiar with what's going on. It's like other things in life, after you've been in it once you'll know more the next time.

Ive done three of them, all while still in the Jeep. You spend more time getting the Tcase out (especially if you have never had it out) and you could have been done with the SYE at that point. You can do it either way, get under the Jeep, and you decide.

looking for these pics with the front shaft being used

I don't have one handy but you can make your own picture- just find a pic of a spendy rear shaft/ sye combo, then go into photoshop and darken up the shiny driveshaft so it looks like something from a junkyard. That's what they look like.

Here is mine, it's all I have handy. I'm sure a simple search would yield some more.
