Manual to automatic conversion?

For full automatic functionality grab as much of the junkyard harness from the TCU that you can. It is spliced into the main engine harness, needs somewhere around 8 wires dealt with. You'd also need to pick up the dual-row automatic throttle position sensor.

Other than that- console is the same, shifter bolts right in, pilot bushing gets removed, crossmember's no big deal, and so on. Just grab as much as possible at the J/Y and know that you'll probably be back for more later. :)

man i just got done doing this. it seems like it is really hard but if you know how to put the tranny in the wiring is real easy there are like 12-15 wires for the trans and the yellow one hooks up to the other yellow bunch, and then the red one hooks up the same and then there are 3 or 4 wires that hook up the the TPS and a few other ones. if you have the wiring diagram start at the Tranny CPU connector and follow the wires to where they go. Took me 20 min to actually do the wiring.

It's really sweet to get the donor XJ and drive/drag it home. Try to get the same year/engine as yours. That way you will have all the parts you need on hand. .
This swap is super easy compared to some stick to slush box swaps but still it's hard to bet having the donor setting next to you.
You could part out the rest of the donor and maybe end up having the donor pay for it's self or tons of spare parts on hand

definitely X2 on this, and you have the benefit going manual->automatic that automatic 4.0L XJs in parts-only condition are a dime a dozen.
