I wanted to upgrade the axle shafts in my 2000 cherokee (without ABS). I have a 2 inch lift and am running 235-75-15 sneakers. I put new axle u-joints in it a year ago because they were going bad, and when i did, i measured the axle diameters vs. another set of D30 axles i had from another XJ (i think they might have been from a 94ish XJ). The extra set of axles i have are slightly larger diameter than what came in my 2000 even though they have a smaller u-joint cup. Why would they put larger joints in a smaller diameter shaft or does the cup size not always matter with the strength of the joint? So are there better axles (larger diameter, joints) i can get at the junk yard to upgrade the ones i have now?
