Does anyone know what is wrong? cant get power to the fuel pump. were is the relay or fuses? I took the clip loose from the pump to check power, none!!! any tricks???

plenty of ideas but first.... what year, motor do you have?

couple ideas..
fuse and or relay can be under the hood or under the dash depending on year
ignition switch--the electrical part not the key part
broken wire
bad ground
bad crank position sensor
--the list can go one but we first need to know what you have..

????do you have someone turning the key to the on position as you are under there? If not do that. There is about a 3 second prime when the key is turned to the on position. If you keep it in the on position and try to get under there(if working by yourself) you will not make it in time to get the reading. Also have someone try to crank it as you are under there measuring for voltage also.

checked for power to pump at gastank,no power!new crank sensor! it runs with a little gas in the throttle body!!! getting plenty of fire just not gas!!! its a 1988 xj 4.0 5 speed:doh:

Ok, you get power to the fuel pump in a number of ways.

First, when you turn the key to the ON position a full 12v of power is supplied to the fuel pump through the B Latch relay (ASD relay on later models) for about 3 seconds, and this bypasses the ballast resistor.

Second, when you turn the key to the START position a full 12v of power is supplied to the fuel pump through the starter relay, and this bypasses the ballast resistor.

Third, when you have the key in the RUN position power is supplied to the fuel pump through the fuel pump relay, and that flows through the ballast resistor where it is reduced to about 6 volts to quiet the fuel pump.

Fourth, when at WOT power is supplied through the oxygen heater relay, a full 12v bypassing the ballast resistor.

Ok, you need to determine at what key position there is no power to the pump.

On my 1990 Renix the relays are, from standing in front of the vehicle, starting at the relay closest to the firewall:

1. Oxygen heater relay.
2. Fuel pump relay
3. B Latch relay (ASD relay later models)
4. A/C relay if so equipped.
