Hood Pins? Giving up on crappy hood releases

I wrote the "hood release 101" last winter, and am ashamed to say the new Mopar hood release cable has broken - again. $50 plus several hours labor down the drain, less then a year later. Chrysler warranties the part, for "one year or 12k miles" which ever is first. Right. like miles driven should matter on a part that raely if ever breaks on other vehicles.
I'm sick of attempting to stuff shoddy, mis-designed parts up Chrysler's rear end, and am close to givign up on this company period.
Any way, I'm giving up on their system, which does not work well with cold weather and salt. HOOD PINS. Anyone done this on a 97-01? Yess, I've searched and they all seem to be on older models.

I have them on a 96 XJ.

The year shouldn't matter since the premise is the same.
