A/C cycles with defroster on??

Noticed the A/C clutch cycles on and off at regular intervals while the defroster is selected. 2000 XJ. Wondering if this is normal. At least it has hot air.

Totally normal there are only two settings that don't use the a/c. pure face and pure feet.

the reason is the dehumidified air rips moisture off the windshield much faster than it would using more humid air from outside.
